Many of our hunting knives handle every job on a hunt. The Blackfoot built its reputation on that. But hides are brutal on an edge, and stopping midway through an animal to sharpen a blade just isn’t ideal. If you can carry more than one knife on your hunt, you should.

That’s why we made the Field Boning Knife.

This is the blade you reach for once the hide is off and it’s time to pull meat clean off the bone. It’s big enough to bone out any big game animal but small enough that you don’t think twice before throwing it in your pack.

(Don’t let the smaller size fool you, though. It’s still perfectly capable on the processing table back home.)

For those of you who run the boneless method, stripping meat in the field and leaving the bones behind, this is the blade you want in your pack.

MAGNACUT STAINLESS STEEL

As a cryogenically heat-treated stainless steel, MagnaCut provides the perfect blend of toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance.

That mix matters most on a boning blade that spends its season wet. Unlike other stainless steel blades, MagnaCut knives can be easily resharpened, even by novice knife owners. We coat the blade in a stonewash finish for added scratch resistance.

BUILT FOR THE BONELESS METHOD

A trailing point blade built for boning out big game.

Run the edge along the bone, pull each cut free and whole, and slide it straight into your game bags. The bones stay in the field.

This isn’t a skinner, though, and it isn’t a pry bar. The hide and the heavy work are best suited for a stouter blade.
PINCH GRIP SCALLOP FOR TIP CONTROL

Two grips, two levels of control.

Hunters love using a pinch grip for finer work, so we shaped a scallop into the blade. Pinch it between your thumb and forefinger for added control on more detailed cuts.

For standard grip, the tight integrated guard keeps your fingers from riding up on the blade.

COMPOSITE HANDLE

Grip that holds from the first cut to the last game bag.

Deboning is wet work, and composite doesn’t care. The handle scales won’t absorb blood or moisture, and they keep their grip whether your hands are bare or gloved up in cold weather.
EXCLUSIVE MKC KYDEX SHEATH

Each Field Boning Knife comes with a custom MKC Kydex sheath.

The sheath features a built-in retention screw to customize blade tension and allow for handle-down carrying. The Field Boning sheath comes with a Kydex clip that allows you to carry your knife on a pack or belt loop, either horizontally or vertically.

    Phenomenal Knife!

    Filled my first tag of the year and finally got to put the field boning knife to the test! I went out with the intention of utilizing the stoned goat for some of the initial work and then transition to the boning knife, but I decided to just do the entire thing with the boning knife. Even after completing the field work, I utilized the same knife to trim and process everything (in prep for grinding) before putting it in the freezer. I thought this blade might have weaknesses somewhere in the process, where I would switch to another blade, but that never happened. I own quite a bit of the MKC hunting lineup ranging from mini goats to the full boning butcher knife. And I think if someone were to ask me now if I could only have one; the field boning knife would be it for me. I really didn't find that it lacked enough anywhere in the process that made me reach for somwthing else. While a little lengthy for some small bird species, it excels at skinning and breasting out larger birds from ducks to turkeys. Functions extremely well in the kitchen setting as well. Will be buying another one for sure.

    Very glad I picked this one up

    With a number of other MKC knives in my quiver I had been on the fence about this one. But so glad I decided to buy one. There is just something about it that stands out and it feels like it can fill a slot that my others wouldn't as well. I'm looking forward to using it in the field this season as well as working in other applications.

    This is a great little boning knife.

    I have the full size version but wanted to try the field version. I haven’t been able to use it in the field but I like the feel of this version rather than the full size version. I definitely recommend it if you’re on the fence of buying it.
